Kathmandu's Royal Kumari, residing in the historic Kumari Ghar at Basantapur, is revered as the living embodiment of the goddess Taleju. Beyond the valley, Nuwakot also holds its own sacred Kumari tradition — the Nuwakot Kumari Mata, enshrined in the ancient Nuwakot Durbar area, carries centuries of divine significance and is deeply venerated by the local Newari and surrounding communities.
